Money has got to be the most emotionally charged word in any language. The beliefs we have associated with this word make us feel very bad. This is because we have consistently learned that money means struggle, and things you should do or must do. We all want more money. Is there an easier way to get money?
When we were little we continually heard things like "You have to work hard to get money" or "Money is hard to come by" or "I never have enough" or "Money is the root of all evil" or "Money is hard to save" or "Money goes out faster than it comes in", or "Money does not grow on trees" or "There is not enough money to go around". We learn that money is something that must be earned, worked hard for, fought for, and struggled for. Our first problem is our negative beliefs about money. Financial success starts with the thoughts and feelings in your mind. Like everything else, the Law of Attraction applies to money too.
We also need to change our beliefs about people who have money. Most of us disapprove of people who have money. We assume that at best they were just lucky and at worst that they got rich by doing something illegal or immoral. We are jealous and think that it is just not fair that they have something that we do not. There are a number of problems with this kind of thinking.
If we think people who have money are bad, then it is like saying that money is bad because it does bad things to people. It also implies that you will be a bad person if you get a lot of money, and you certainly do not want to be a bad person.
The problem with being jealous and seeing the situation as unfair is that it prevents you from liking rich people and wanting to be around them. This in turn prevents you from learning from them how to be successful yourself. It keeps you poor and miserable.
Some people think that they do not deserve to have a lot of money or would be incapable of handling it. Associating with rich people would teach them that everyone deserves to have money, and everyone can handle it once they know the right methods of doing that.
How do you change your limiting beliefs about money? Jack Canfield has come up with three steps. The first step is to write down what your beliefs are. The second step is to argue with and make fun of your limiting belief. The third step is to create a positive turnaround statement that is the opposite of the original belief and makes you feel delighted. Repeat your new belief several times a day for at least 30 days and it will stay with you.
Jack Canfield reminds us that "You have to take time each day and focus on thoughts of prosperity and images of financial success…If you want to accelerate reaching your financial goals, you need to practice saying positive money affirmations every day."
He points out that you need to visualize seeing your financial goals as already accomplished, and to use all your senses in these visualizations.
A final point is that your goal must not be to make X amount of dollars. Your goal is to have the things that X amount of dollars will give you. Your goal might be to have a waterfront mansion, or to go on a safari to Africa. When you focus on that, and on how good achieving that will make you feel, it is then that you will acquire the money to allow you to achieve your goal. As Lynn Grabhorn points out "Emotionally spend the money you want, again and again and again to give the energy outlets into which to flow. You can not say "give me X-amount of dollars and then I will decide what to do with it" Decide what to do with it first; that is the asking that allows the energy to move in. The energy of money needs outlets; no outlets, no money."
